A Comparison of Broadband and Narrowband Fisheries Sonar Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Some of the differences between broadband and narrowband sonar systems applied in fisheries hydroacoustics are examined. Following a brief discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of broadband sonar, three different aspects of narrowband and broadband sonar systems are compared: detection, Doppler processing, and split-beam localization. Summaries are provided that compare representative broadband and narrowband sonar systems. This material is based upon work supported by National Science Foundation under award number 9961318. Narrowband Passive Sonar Tracking
Passive sonar sensors are the main source of information for a submerged submarine. Modern sonar systems like ISUS 90 offer a number of acoustic antennas and combined signal processing for broadband and narrowband detection and analysis of target noise. While broadband detection is often used to obtain an overview of the targets surrounding the own ship, narrowband processing enables the detect...

This project aims to demonstrate how the detection process of broadband clicks can be modeled for different marine mammal species and detectors and assess the magnitude of error on the estimated density due to various commonly used simplifying assumptions in the modeling process. Our main purposes are to quantify potential biases in the population density estimate for selected species and detec...

متن کاملA Fresh Look At 'Broadband' Passive Sonar Processing
Traditional passive broadband sonar processing has been constructed by performing spatial decomposition (beamforming) followed by a temporal filter (Eckart weighting) structured to maximize deflection for signal present while minimizing deflection under noise only conditions. This processing, while approaching optimality in the stationary single signal-stationary noise case, is not well suited ...
متن کاملBroadband Beamforming and Direction Finding Using Concentric Ring Array
Sensor arrays have been used widely in applications including radar, sonar, seismology, biomedicine, communications, geophysical exploration, astronomy, and imaging. A very popular type of sensor array is circular array. It has several advantages such as the fact that it can perform 360 scan around its center very conveniently and during the scan the array pattern can be kept almost invariant. ...
